There could be much confusion about the origins of the moniker Take Ivy. Some people would argue that it revolves around the controversy of poaching elephants for their tusks. Others debate that it is inspired by a book cataloguing the fashion trends around ivy league schools during the late sixties. But no matter what the story is about the name, the music pushes the roots of the utmost ambiguous title.
Even with the eccentrics of the name, the five individuals of Take Ivy come from modest backgrounds. The core of our band lays in many different places, but we have come together to create a modern sound... with a touch of soul.
Three of our members; Kellen Murakami, Joey Muraoka, and Fred Carlton are from the islands of Hawaii, and have backgrounds in roots reggae and catchy pop melodies. Our two other counterparts from California; William Chang and Adam Ehrig, are influenced by the approach of soul and r&b.
Despite these offbeat components, distant origins, and peculiar title, the goal is simple: To create interesting and exciting music through the inspirational, ever-changing medium of art.
